Former North Melbourne and Adelaide Crows midfielder Sam Gibson has found a new football home, signing with Sorrento in the Mornington Peninsula league.
The durable Gibson, who played 130 consecutive games for the Kangaroos between 2012 and 2017 before switching to Adelaide last year, joins fellow ex-AFL players Luke Tapscott, Mitch Hallahan and recent signing Luke Lowden at the Sharks.
“Having someone of his calibre is going to be a great asset to Sorrento in terms of stimulating interest in kids around the area,’’ Sharks president Bernie Balmer said.
“They’ll have the opportunity to play with someone of such class.’’
Gibson, 32, retired from the AFL in August after hamstring strains ruined his 2018 season with the Crows.
He was delisted by North Melbourne in 2017 despite finishing sixth in the Kangaroos’ best and fairest.
Adelaide Crows coach Don Pyke lauded Gibson’s dedication and professionalism.
Sorrento suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss to Pines in the 2018 Peninsula league grand final.
