The cancellation of the Sunraysia Football Netball League has proved a boon for MPNFL clubs, with three star players submitting clearance applications.
Jay Reynolds, Colin McVeigh and Brad Arnold will line-up with peninsula clubs in 2020 — if the season goes ahead — after the Sunraysia club they were tied to, Robinvale-Euston, pulled out of the season.
The Sunraysia league scrapped its season on the weekend.
Reynolds is back at the Frankston Bombers, where he’s played 145 games, while McVeigh, a decorated Hastings player, has opted to join Mornington and Arnold is back at Crib Point.
Reynolds must serve a four-game suspension, incurred in Robinvale’s preliminary final loss last season, before playing again.
Frankston Bombers coach Beau Muston said Reynolds would add grunt to the Bombers side.
“When Jay was in his prime he was one of the elite players in the comp,” Muston said.
“He’s still a very good quality player — he’s played some very good bush footy as well.
“He adds a bit more grunt I suppose, he’s a pretty tough player, Jay, so he’s a good one to be able to add to our group.”
McVeigh, a premiership player and dual best and fairest winner at Hastings, has joined to Mornington, where his father-in-law Robert Smith is club president.
If the season goes ahead, he faces the prospect of playing against Hastings.
Mornington coach Simon Goosey is rapt to have McVeigh on his list.
“He’s been training with us over the pre-season,” Goosey said.
“He’s quite versatile, he can play key forward, key back, he can even play on the wing.’'
Arnold is a former Crib Point captain who played with Nightcliff in Darwin over the summer months.
