Play was halted for 26 minutes in the Tyabb-Devon Meadows game after Yabbies captain Ethan Rahilly was knocked out in a tackle.
There were fears Rahilly had suffered a neck injury when his head hit the ground late in the third quarter at Bunguyan Reserve.
An ambulance was called and paramedics attended to him on the ground.
Fortunately, he was cleared of structural damage and discharged from hospital on Saturday night.
“It was just one of those unfortunate ones, there was no malice in it,’’ Tyabb coach Aaron Pacey said.
“He hit his head and was in a pretty bad way. He was unconscious for about a minute or so I think. It was a little bit distressing, apparently he frothed from the mouth.’’
Pacey spoke to Rahilly on Sunday morning and had good news. “He’s all good,’’ he said.
When play resumed, the remaining 47 seconds of the third term was played.
Tyabb took a 17-point lead into the last quarter and maintained its advantage to win 9.10 (64) to 6.12 (48).
Rahilly’s brother Simon, running on emotion, was best-afield while Brayden Pitcher, Michael Altenkirch (five goals), Brad Harbinson, Jordan Murphy and Aaron Turner also played key roles for the Yabbies.
Langwarrin continued its march to the finals when it handed second-placed Karingal only its second defeat of the season at Lloyd Park.
The Kangaroos got on top in the second quarter and powered clear to win by 32 points, 14.16 (100) to 10.8 (68) — making it five wins in a row.
Matt Peynenborg booted four goals for Langy, including a clever banana goal, while the in-form Josh Biggs slotted three and set up several others.
Jesse Murphy kicked a great goal on his left foot and Joel Bateman finished with two goals. Mitch Cuthbert was best-on-ground, marginally in front of Nick Tuddenham, Tim McGennis and Ash Fenech.
Karingal’s best were Dale Alanis, Michael Burke, Ryan Davey and Dylan Gregson.
Chelsea spearhead Curtis Bywater stole the show with nine goals as the Seagulls stormed home to beat Brendan Fevola’s Hastings by 15 points, 16.17 (113) to 15.8 (98).
Fev slotted five goals of his own but the day belonged to Bywater, who was red-hot as the Seagulls unleashed a blistering seven-goal last quarter after trailing by eight points at the last change. Jason Clark, Jackson Arthur, Todd Gardiner and Luke Shannon also starred for the Gulls, while Luke Hewitt, Matt Foy and Pete Megee led the way for the Blues.
Aaron Walton fired off eight goals to help Seaford to a thumping 121-point win over Crib Point, 22.19 (151) to 4.6 (30).
While Walton ran hot, so too did Matt McLennan who capped a best-on-ground display with four goals. Damien Rayson, Ben Howlett, Andrew Teakel and Nick Braund also impressed for the 10-6 Tigers.
MPNFL: MORNINGTON WINS AFTER THE BELL
Red Hill made light work of Rye, kicking six unanswered goals in the last quarter to win by 82 points, 15.7 (97) to 2.3 (15).
Red Hill’s Lachlan Chandler was best-afield, with Danny Allsop, Michael Mock, Josh Mold and Zach Vines (five goals) also impressing.
Somerville’s forward line had a picnic in its 72-pint win over Pearcedale, 19.14 (128) to 8.8 (56). Paul Fermanis slotted six goals, Daniel Marshall five and Ryan Gillis four, while Luke Burton was another Eagles star contributor.
