Nip, nip — a new king Yabbie will be crowned on Saturday.
Mat Hose will equal Tyabb Football Netball Club’s games record of 339 when he lines up in the Yabbies’ reserves against Seaford at Bunguyan Reserve.
The 42-year-old is small in stature but he’s a giant of the Tyabb footy club; a six-time best and fairest winner, former coach, captain and genuine champion.
Hose bowed out of First XVIII ranks in 2011 but his love of the Yabbies has seen him return to play in the club’s reserves and assist with coaching in recent seasons, as well as hopping on to the club’s committee.
And, don’t worry, he still goes alright out on the ground.
“You don’t lose class, and he’s got plenty of that,’’ Tyabb senior coach Aaron Pacey said.
“He’s been playing some pretty good footy.”
When Hose runs out on Saturday, one of the proudest people will be Tyabb’s current games record holder, Scott Pickersgill, who these days is runner in the Yabbies’ ones.
Scotty Pick has the utmost respect for his mate Hosey.
“Without pumping his tyres up too much, he’s just done heaps for the club — in good times and in bad,” Pickersgill said.
“He would have been offered big money to go elsewhere and he’s been happy to stay and play and he’s been on the committee and helped out in all ways.”
In other Mat Hose information:
*He missed out on playing in Tyabb’s senior premiership in 2000 because he spent the season with the Frankston Dolphins in the VFL (including a BOG display in the last round).
*He played 251 games in Tyabb’s seniors, and also coached the club for three years and was captain for five.
*As well as his six senior B&Fs, he was also runner up on three occasions. And he’s been runner up three times in the reserves award, too.

*The Hose brothers — Mat, Darren, Brett and Fraser — have played 896 games for Tyabb.
And their dad, Neil, is a Yabbies icon who still works tirelessly as a volunteer at the club.
Neil is currently holidaying in Norway. But there’s no way he’s going to miss seeing Mat create history and will make a rushed trip home, scheduled to arrive on Saturday morning.
