Former North Melbourne and Richmond livewire Robin Nahas still has pace to burn, if his first outing for his new club Pines is any indication.

Turning out for the Pythons in a practice match against Red Hill last week, Nahas turned on the afterburners on a couple of occasions to leave opponents in his wake.

“I said to him, ‘a few more of those runs would be good’,” Pines coach Paddy Swayn said.

“And he said, ‘no I don’t want to be a hog’.

“Red Hill is a pretty quick team and they had no one who could get near him.”

Robin Nahas will play nine or 10 games for Pines in the MPNFL.

Nahas will play alongside his former Richmond teammate Aaron Edwards at Pines, and is expected to turn out in about 10 games as he juggles his commitments as an assistant coach with Port Melbourne.

But Pythons fans keen to see him sizzle have to be patient — his first game in the red and green is likely to be on May 4 against the Frankston Bombers at Eric Bell Reserve.

Nahas had hoped to play in Pines’ opening game against Mt Eliza on Saturday but has pulled out — Port Melbourne plays at Williamstown at 7.15pm.

Pines will field a strong side as it begins its premiership defence. Beau Hendry will again captain the Pythons, who have been boosted by a package of Pearcedale players, including Luke Dalmau and Troy Jacobson.

Former Frankston and Doveton ruckman Russell Gabriel is another key recruit along with Sandringham VFL-listed Jono Haidon.

ROUND 1, Saturday, April 6: Mt Eliza v Pines, Frankston Bombers v Bonbeach, Frankston YCW v Sorrento, Rosebud v Dromana, Edi-Asp v Mornington.
