A RED-HOT Jordan Moncrieff fired off seven goals as Mt Eliza stormed home to beat Frankston YCW by 16 points in the MPNFL Division 1 first semi-final on Saturday.

The former Casey Demons spearhead — and the son of former Hawthorn star Michael Moncrieff — was unstoppable, slotting six goals in the second half as the Redlegs turned a 27-point halftime deficit into a stirring 11.9 (75) to 8.11 (59) victory.

For Frankston YCW, it was the end of their quest for a fifth successive premiership.

But for Mt Eliza, an exciting opportunity lies ahead.

The Redlegs are into a preliminary final and their stocks are on the rise.

They appear to have the pace and energy to be a force on the vast expanses of Frankston Park.

“I think on the big ground they will be hard to beat,’’ Frankston YCW coach Wayne Capp said.

“They spread really well and they’ve got a lot of young guys who can run and once they get a sniff of it they will be able to put anyone to the sword I think.’’

Capp lamented the Stonecats’ missed chances in the first half.

“I felt we should have been further ahead at halftime and we suffered the consequences of that in the second half when they came back firing,’’ he said.

Moncrieff, capitalising on swift ball movement and good delivery, kicked three goals in the third quarter as Mt Eliza worked its way to a one-point lead by the end of the term.

Young Redleg Luca Goonan sparked the turnaround with successive goals, his first a beauty from 55m.

A Frankston YCW goal on the three quarter-time siren that would have put the Stonecats five points ahead was, eventually, disallowed after umpires deemed it was kicked after the siren.

Moncrieff added another thee majors in the last term, soaring high to take a big grab in the goal square and kicking the sealer.

Mt Eliza had influential players in Shane Tennant, James Hammond, Goonan, Ben Landry and Harper Leonard.

YCW’s best were Christian Ongarello, Cody Henness and Jacob Cheverly.

Capp admitted YC couldn’t stop Moncrieff.

“They were getting the ball in really quickly to him which was hard to defend,’’ Capp said. “He had a great game. He was definitely the difference between the two sides I thought.’’
