As Seaford’s hunt for its next senior coach continues, the young Tigers gave a timely reminder of a potentially exciting future on Saturday.
They kicked 11 goals in the second half to overpower Tyabb 19.17 (131) to 16.9 (105) in a shootout-out at RF Miles Reserve.
Livewire Seth Kelly slotted four goals and Chris Buttner, who spent time in the ruck and up forward, booted three.
Hunter Quint down back was influential and smooth moving half back Will White did a good job on Tyabb’s Will Hose.
Harry Bould kicked a classy goal just before halftime and was named best-afield for Seaford, which also counted Sam Mackinder, Bailey Mcindoe, Koby Frey and Lualweng Woul among its best.
After parting ways with coach Rohan Bleeker after Round 9, Seaford installed former club coach Craig McIndoe and ex-club captain Rohan “Polly” Farmer as interim co-coaches, with former Bonbeach coach Steve Capp assisting them.
Capp likes what he sees at the Tigers; he firmly believes Seaford’s future is bright.
“There are some really good players there,’’ Capp said.
“The Under 19s have won the last three flags I think. There’s a really good core of kids coming through. From 23 right down to 17, 16 …yeah the future is really bright.
“We’re trying to get that balance between development and the hardness of senior footy.’’
Capp said it was crucial the club appoint the right person as senior coach in 2026.
“(They need) an experienced guy, someone with proven acumen who’s got a connection to those young kids, I think that’s what we’re looking for, someone who can develop them,’’ he said.
“Their connection and passion for the club is really strong, we just need someone to take it to that next level which they’re all crying out for.
“I tell to what, if I was looking for a senior coaching job, Seaford would be it. There’s a lot of positives there, for sure.”
Seaford’s win on Saturday was its first since Round 5 on May 10.
The Tigers (5-8) are mathematically still a chance to play finals, although Capp said the remaining five weeks of the season was about development.
“The boys needed it (Saturday’s win),’’ he said.
“They’ve been playing some really good footy...we’re just trying to get the consistency between our best footy and our worse footy.”
