After enduring a disappointing string of four consecutive losses, a Division 2 Mornington Peninsula league football club has parted ways with its coach.
Seaford made the shock announcement on Monday night it had “mutually agreed’’ to part ways with second-year coach Rohan Bleeker, effective immediately.
The decision came two days after the Tigers suffered a home loss to Hastings, 13.6 (84) to 8.11 (59).
Bleeker, though, indicated he wanted to continue and said he was “gutted’’ with the decision.
“I don’t have a lot to say at this stage,’’ he said on Tuesday.
“I’m obviously gutted with the decision. I thought we were building something.’’
Bleeker said he wanted to coach again.
“For me, I want to be a career coach, so I’ll wait to see what’s next,’’ he said.
Seaford president Luke Richardson commended Bleeker on the “power of work” he’d done in his time at the club, and said “it’s nothing personal’’.
“It’s just one of those things. This is how footy works. It’s nothing personal. It’s the nature of footy,’’ Richardson said.
“We have great respect for Rohan. There’s no ill will, we wish him all the best.’’
Seaford started the season strongly, beating last season’s grand finalists Chelsea in late April to sit near the top of the table with a 4-1 record.
The Tigers then lost four in a row, to Devon Meadows (by 32 points), Bonbeach (31), Frankston Bombers (100) and Hastings (25). As it sits, Seaford is in eighth spot with a 4-5 record.
Seaford’s assistant coaches will share the interim coaching duties for the remainder of the season.
The Tigers host Somerville on Saturday.
