Jamie Mollo was named Mornington Peninsula league Division 1 coach of the year on Monday night.

On Thursday night he hopes to be reappointed by Red Hill.

While rival clubs have locked in their coaches for 2025 and beyond, the Hillmen have held off.

Mollo is one of the league’s longest serving coaches, having steered Red Hill since 2018, including a premiership in 2019. This season he led the Hillmen to an historic first Division 1 finals campaign.

He wants to continue in the role, believing he can take the club even further.

“I’m definitely enjoying being at Red Hill and enjoying this young group coming through,” he said.

“I’m meeting with the club on Thursday night, we’ve already met once, but I wantd to wait until the finals were done and dusted and then just chat where we’re at.

“I’m not planning on going anywhere. It’s a great club, a great culture. And there’s a whole new level of hopefully sustained success coming through.”

Mollo said Red Hill had “great depth’’ in its under 19s and reserves.

“It’s great to be there for the journey and the likeliness is yes I’ll be staying on,” he said.

Mollo said Red Hill was aiming to reach the same heights as Dromana, its closest neighbour.

“We want to get to where Dromana are, to where Mt Eliza are, and we want to get to where Frankston YCW have been for such a long period of time,” he said.

“They all started by staying together. We just want to do the same.”

Mollo said the Hillmen had already begun recruiting, with the club targeting four newcomers, including a defender to support Dan Frampton and the backline.

“My theory is retain, develop and get no more than four. Then the playing list knows they’ve got an opportunity to play senior footy if they work hard,” he said.

Red Hill midfielder Michael Griechen tied with Dromana’s Billy Geurts in the EV Shade Medal on Monday night.
