The Seagulls are starting to swarm.
Chelsea has gone up a gear in recent weeks as it chases its first senior premiership in 18 years.
On Saturday, the Gulls turned in one of the most dominant finals performances in MPFNL history to blitz Devon Meadows 23.13 (151) to 6.8 (44) in the Division 2 qualifying final.
Dave Willett’s side bombarded Devon Meadows with an avalanche of forward entries, with five Seagulls kicking three goals apiece: Jesse Davies, Jack Francis, Baxter Knight, John Simson and Jack Wallace.
Anthony Beale and captain Todd Gardiner chimed in with two goals apiece.
In all, Chelsea had 11 goalkickers.
Timing their run perfectly, the Seagulls have become a dynamic, high-scoring side in the past five weeks.
In that time they’ve racked up scores of 121, 95, 97, 98 and 151 points; they’re more unpredictable, more aware of options and this has delivered a spread of goalkickers.
The Gulls go into this weekend’s second semi-final against minor premier Edithvale-Aspendale justifiably confident of winning through to the grand final — notwithstanding the fact that Kris Pendlebury’s Edi-Asp have won 17 on the spin.
Chelsea’s last senior flag was in 2006 under Tim Scott-Branagan.
Meanwhile, Somerville is another club hitting its stride at the right time as it looks to end a long premiership drought.
The Eagles beat Pearcedale 17.16 (118) to 10.15 (75) in the elimination final on Sunday.
The fiercely competitive Kane McKenzie was best-on-ground, while Joel Vincent kicked four goals and Lachlan Sharp and Lachlan Williams three apiece.
Pearcedale spearhead Brett Eddy injured his ankle in the opening quarter and was restricted for the remainder of the game.
Somerville’s last senior flag was in 1986 when St Kilda champion Gary Colling was coach.
The Eagles face Devon Meadows in the first semi-final on Sunday.
