Former AFL Tiger and Hawk Tyrone Vickery booted three goals as Edithvale-Aspendale produced the comeback of the round in MPFNL Division 2 on Saturday.

The Eagles turned a quarter-time deficit of 23 points into a 26-point victory over Bonbeach, 10.14 (74) to 7.6 (48).

The 5-1 Eagles also found inspiration from Lewis Diggins, Ishak Bashir and the brilliant Kurt Lo Po as they outscored Bonbeach nine goals to two after quarter time.

Edi-Asp coach Kris Pendlebury said his side’s midfield sparked the turnaround.

“Diggins, Lo Po and Bashir turned the momentum for us in the second quarter,” he said.

Pendlebury also praised forward Michael Meehan, who worked well alongside Vickery.

Devon Meadows captain Nick Battle capped a best-on-ground display with 38 disposals and a goal as the Panthers beat Somerville by 44 points, 13.15 (93) to 7.7 (49). Brendan Hermann was also influential with 27 touches and ruckman Riley Simmons, Riley McDonald and Kai Davies impressed.

Battle’s stats included 30 kicks and seven tackles.

Devon Meadows star Paddy Ryder didn’t play for the second match in a row, with coach Ryan Hendy saying he had tightness in his legs.

“It’s nothing serious,” he said.

“He could have played last week and this week to be honest, but no point risking anything this early in the year.”
