A Mornington Peninsula Football Netball League board has been formed ahead of the 2023 season.
The board has been appointed to assist in governing the league on behalf of the MPFNL clubs with the view to consider the following matters:
*Expansion of a third MPFNL division
*Review the clubs’ insurance arrangements
*Review the current men’s U19 competition
*Player wellbeing
*Corporate partnerships
There were nine nominations for six board positions.
The six board members, with the clubs who nominated them in brackets, are:
Graham Sherry – chairperson (Red Hill)
Michael Davis – (Chelsea)
Shane McMahon – (Rye)
David Livingstone – (Somerville)
Cassandra Clayton – (Mt Eliza)
Stuart Gay – (Hastings)
Sherry, who has been installed as chairperson, is current president of Red Hill FNC.
He is a practicing solicitor and for 28 years was a partner in global law firm Baker and McKenzie.
Sherry is also currently chair of the Western Bulldogs ethics and integrity committee and was previously a director of the Western Bulldogs Football Club, the VFL board, AFL appeals board and disciplinary tribunal.
“The entire MPFNL board is looking forward to addressing important issues facing our league and implementing long term strategies to benefit all clubs and participants,” Sherry said.
It’s a new era for football and netball on the Mornington Peninsula.
The league is now called the Mornington Peninsula Football Netball League — it was the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League since 1986 — after club presidents voted for the change at the annual general meeting last month.
Nepean has been dropped from the name, with the MPFNL name now including the netball component of the competition.
