Paul McCormack says he wants to coach somewhere next season after Edithvale-Aspendale parted ways with him.
The former Carlton player and Bayswater premiership coach was told he wouldn’t be reappointed for a third season by the Eagles on Tuesday night.
“I didn’t get reinstated, I went for it last night,” McCormack said on Wednesday afternoon.
“They’ve decided not to go with me.
“Oh well, obviously I wanted to do it again. It was a sacking, you know.’’
Under McCormack, Edi-Asp was relegated from MPFNL Division 1 in 2022 and this season had a 10-8 record but narrowly missed finals in Division 2.
“When I got there it was about building the joint,” he said.
“Obviously I didn’t get to finish what I started. I’m disappointed.”
McCormack brought key players to Edi-Asp, most notably league medal runner-up Kurt Lopo.
It’s understood Lopo has recommitted to the Eagles and McCormack said he would “encourage’’ him to stay.
“I haven’t got a job lined up to where I’m going to take them, you know what I mean?” McCormack said.
“It’s a good club, they’re looking after Kurty and Browny and those blokes.
“In the end it’s just unfortunate. As I said I would have liked to do it again. I just didn’t get the opportunity.’’
McCormack added: “Some clubs are more patient than others. What did Bart Cummings used to say? Patience costs you nothing.”
McCormack said he’s keen to coach a club next season.
“Yeah, I love it, I love coaching,’’ he said.
“It would have to be right.
“I wouldn’t do the total re-build again, mate, it’s very difficult.
“They (Edi-Asp) are a good club, they’ve been good to me, I’m obviously disappointed. The process is the process.’’
