A MORNINGTON goal-kicking legend made a shock and spontaneous comeback to the game at the age of 50 on the weekend.
With the Bulldogs’ reserves side short of players, senior coach Simon Goosey made a spur of the moment decision to pull on the boots for his first game since 2010.
Then the man who fired off more than 1800 goals showed he still had it.
He booted two goals – from a mark and then a snap – to help Mornington’s magoos to a 75-point win over Rosebud at Alexandra Park.

SMART MOVE TO DRAFT MARTIN: GOOSEY
“We were short, mate,’’ Goosey said.
“The boys ran out and I thought, ‘geez we can’t be that short’. I thought I’d just help the young boys out.’’
Goosey, who wore No. 41, said he enjoyed being back out there, although he was as stiff as a board on Sunday.
“I paid for it last night trying to sleep,’’ he said.
“I’m sore all over — back, hip, everything.
“The mind knows, but the body…I supposed I’m not conditioned to it.
Some of Goosey’s teammates were almost a third his age, including 17-year-old Jack Crawford. Young Rosebud defender Edward Ellis had the honour of playing on the champ.
Goosey said he might play one or two more games this season.
