MORDIALLOC coach Jason Chapple has announced his shock resignation, with the Bloods sitting second on the SFNL Division 1 ladder.
Chapple said increased work commitments was a key factor in his decision.
“There are a few reasons but basically work overload,” he said.
“If you are going to do something you’ve got to do it one hundred percent and I’ve never been one to do things half arsed.”
In his second season at the helm, Chapple had the Bloods 5-2 and in premiership contention.
He concedes his decision to walk away would surprise many.
“It would. But I’ve been thinking about it for a little while,” he said.
“It all gets pretty consuming when you’ve got two young blokes playing, you are coaching them, and work...”
Mordialloc president Terry Evans said the club accepted Chapple’s resignation on Wednesday and wished him well.
“We parted amicably,” Evans said.
Evans said Mordialloc would re-focus on its premiership quest.
“We’ve got to work hard now,’’ he said.
“We’re trying to find an interim coach, we are putting the feelers out and we are hoping we might have one. It’s not official yet.
“Nothing has changed with the playing group. It’s just that Jason has had it leave the role. We are moving on. Obviously we’ve got to talk to the players tonight (Thursday). We sent out text messages last night to inform them and they’re all ready to keep going.”
It’s believed former Bloods player Dan Quinn is a front runner to take the coaching reins.
