An individual bagging 21 goals in a game is as astonishing as it is rare.

Wallan spearhead Matt Perri did just that on Saturday as the Magpies put Riddell District Football League strugglers Rockbank to the sword, 60.18 (378) to 3.5 (23) at Greenhill Reserve.

Perri’s super efficient 21.2 only made the feat more extraordinary.

Leading the league goalkicking with 65 majors, 13 ahead of Riddell’s Dylan Tarczon, Perri paid tribute to his teammates.

“The boys left the forward line open for me and I had a lot of room to work in,” he said.

“I tried to hand off as many as possible but a few fell in my lap and a couple of cheapies in the goalsquare.

“Rockbank are struggling, so as good as it was to kick 21, I felt a bit sorry for them.

“Everything just went my way, except in the last minute of the game I got my head split open — five stitches in my head — which took the gloss off.”

Perri had four goals in the first quarter and added seven more in the second term, three in the third and finished strongly with a seven-goal final quarter.

REPORT: WALLAN SENDS WARNING OVER ROMSEY

It’s the second time Wallan has piled on more than 300 points against the Rams this season, after posting 49.31 (325) in Round 2 as Perri booted 13.

Perri also booted 12 in a 267-point win over Lancefield in Round 10.

It was an equally big day for Wallan’s reserves, who enjoyed a 243-point win over Rockbank, 37.21 (243) to 0.0 (0).

Having arrived from Heathcote District league club Leitchville Gunbower, Perri said he was enjoying his time at Wallan.

“I struggled earlier in the year with my goalkicking but I worked hard on it the last month or so and it’s starting to pay off,” he said.

“I’m really enjoying it, the club’s really good. The boys’ confidence in sky high at the moment.”

The win lifted the Magpies to third on percentage, equal on 36 points with Riddell in second, Macedon (fourth) and Diggers Rest (fifth).

The Magpies host Melton Centrals in Round 13.
