MACEDON just clung on to victory against a fast-finishing Romsey in Round 11 of the Riddell District Football League on Saturday.
The Cats held a 30-point lead at the main break but managed just two goals in the second half as their healthy lead evaporated.
The margin was reduced to 21 points at three-quarter- time before Romsey continued to throw everything it had at the home side in the final term at Tony Clarke Reserve.
But the Redbacks ultimately came up short, Macedon scraping to an 11.9 (75) to 10.12 (72) victory.
Zachary Smedley and Casey Summerfield led the way for the Cats in the nailbiting triumph.
Macedon remains two games clear in third place on the ladder.
Other weekend results were not so close, Broadford’s 35-point victory over Wallan the next tightest affair. Adrian Romanyk kicked seven goals to be named the Kangaroos’ best.
At Lancefield Park, the Tigers slipped to a sixth loss in seven matches, managing only six goals in a 38-point defeat to Riddell.
Stephen Burlak slotted six majors for Rupertswood as it climbed to fourth spot on the ladder with a 177-point belting of Rockbank, while Diggers Rest remained two games clear on top of the table after defeating Melton Centrals by 59 points.
