Bags of goals, massive scores and famous come-from-behind wins — and we even had a full-forward move to 99 goals. It’s all in Saturday’s local footy wrap.

Ararat is undefeated after 12 games. Its closest contest was in Round 9, when Dimboola got within five points.

TAYLOR’S BIG DAY ON THE ISLAND

Phillip Island captain Jack Taylor slotted 10 goals to fire his side to a 150-point thumping of Dalyston in the West Gippsland league. The Bulldogs blitzed 16 goals in the first half to set up the 29.14 (188) to 5.4 (34) result, lifting them to top spot. Former Western Bulldogs player Daniel Pearce also ran hot for Phillip Island, along with Hayden Bruce and Daniel Bourke. Meanwhile, Nar Nar Goon caused the boilover of the round, beating ladder leaders Inverloch-Kongwak by 18 points, 10.9 (69) to 7.9 (51), with Trent Armour, Nate Pipicelli and Jai Hamilton outstanding for the winners.

SO CLOSE TO THREE FIGURES

The state’s leading goalkicker, Marong’s Brandyn Grenfell, missed by one to notch his second straight century of goals in the Loddon Valley league on Saturday. He went into the game against B/L Serpentine Seniors needing six after kicking a season-high 13 last round but was held to five in his side’s 130-point win, 24.12 (156) to 3.8 (26). Grenfell, poised on 99, will have to wait a couple of weeks to post the ton, with Marong having a bye next round.

SAINTS GREATS AT SEAFORD

The great Robert Harvey returned to his original club Seaford for a luncheon and brought St Kilda coach Ross Lyon with him. But their presence couldn’t stop local rivals Chelsea from scoring a resounding 75-point win, 25.18 (168) to 14.9 (93). Anthony Beale booted seven goals for the Seagulls.

BULLS CHARGE HOME

Karingal got its season back on track with a fast-finishing 17-point win over Somerville in Mornington Peninsula league’s Division 2. The Bulls were outplayed early before mounting a resolute fightback, kicking 11 goals to three in the second half for a rousing 15.19 (109) to 14.8 (92) victory, snapping a three-game losing streak — all in club favourite Cal Dixon’s 250th game. Seth Kelly ignited Karingal with two goals in as many minutes in the last quarter, while Bulls power forward Darcy Hope was a match-winner with five goals.

VERMONT RUNS HOT

Eastern league ladder leaders Vermont scored an eye-popping 177-point win over Doncaster, with Daniel Nielson firing off eight goals, Adrian Kalcovski six and Jamieson Rossiter five. Vermont had a day out, kicking seven unanswered goals in the second quarter before a 10-goal third term in a 33.14 (212) to 5.5 (35) result.

SAINTS WIN AGAIN

St Bernard’s improved its record to 11-1 in VAFA Premier B with a slick 62-point win over Old Geelong, 15.20 (110) to 7.6 (48). The Saints sprayed 1.8 in the opening quarter but soon clicked into gear, kicking five goals to two in the second term. Marcus Holland slotted five goals and Dom Sullivan four while Ben Overman wa sbest-afield.

BAZZANI BEST-ON

Collegians proved their premiership credentials with a 72-point demolition of Old Xaverians in VAFA Premier Men’s. Jim Bazzani capped a best-afield display with a goal, while Ed Greene kicked four goals and Will Pocknee and Telgan Otter three apiece.

BULLDOGS BITE

Highett has marginalised the gap between it and a second chance finish after a rattling win over Doveton in Southern league Division 2.

The Bulldogs led at every change in the commanding 10.4 (64) to 6.7 (43) victory on the road.

The Doves, who handed East Brighton its first loss a month ago, have lost two of their past three.

The Doggies (fourth) entered the match a win and 17 per cent behind the Doves (third), but have left an enticing battle for third in the final weeks.

The result all but cements a second chance for Murrumbeena, after the Lions defeated fifth-placed Hampton Park by nine goals.

The Lions are now two wins clear of the Doves.

WARBY TOO GOOD

Warburton Millgrove consolidated top spot in Outer East league’s Division 2 with a 73-point win over Broadford, 17.21 (123) to 8.2 (50), with Jack Farrugia and Liam Westlake both slotting five goals.

BERGERS TOO STRONG

Northern league ladder leaders Heidelberg thrashed Bundoora by 78 points in the grand final rematch, 17.13 (115) to 5.7 (37). And Greensborough’s finals hopes took a hit, losing to Banyule by three points.

EAGLES IN GOAL BLITZ

Edithvale-Aspendale went on a scoring blitz in MPFNL Division 2, thrashing a hapless Rye by 156 points, 33.14 (212) to 9.2 (56). Zack O’Neill and Billy Flavelle booted five goals apiece for the Eagles.
