HE MADE his name as one of Richmond’s most popular players, but now pocket rocket Jake King could be on his way to the Northern Football League.
“The Push-Up King” has filed a clearance to NFL club Macleod, where it is hoped he will play a one-off game in the second half of the year.
However, Roos coach Garry Ramsay said there was no time frame for when King, who has family connections at De Winton Park, may make his Macleod debut.
King, a 2005 North Heidelberg premiership player, has not played football since a toe injury forced him to call time on his AFL career at the end of 2014.
“He may play a game later on but it is only early days,” Ramsay said.
“It is still up in the air how that is going to play out — I suspect it will be a one-off game.
“I think it (transfer) got a little bit rushed before clearances close (on June 30).
“I think the dynamics of it will get worked out now.”
Macleod sits atop the Division 1 ladder with a 8-1 record, a game clear of second-placed Northcote Park.
“Our theory has always been that we are going to look after our own kids,” Ramsay said.
“You’ve probably noticed we have the least recruits and the least points and that is the way we will continue to operate.
“If he does play, it would purely be for fundraising and a one-off.
“He has a lot of relatives that play with us.”
King played 107 AFL games and booted 79 goals from 2007 to 2014.
