PEARCEDALE edged Langwarrin by four points to reclaim the Bushman’s Cup on Saturday – but the thrilling win was overshadowed by a freakish injury occurrence.

Pearcedale identical twins Dylan and Jake Ryan did their knees within an hour of each other; Dylan in the opening quarter and Jake in the third term.

Both were on the comeback trail from knee reconstructions, having initially suffered the injuries in the same season two years ago.

“Dylan is pretty sure he’s done his again and Jake wasn’t a hundred percent,’’ Pearcedale coach Leigh Stewart said.

“It was a pretty rough day for mum and dad sitting in the car watching.’’

Pearcedale, despite kicking six successive points in the last quarter, clung on to win 10.18 (78) to 11.8 (74) at Tractor Park.

A fierce tackling performance by youngster David Hussey underpinned the Panthers’ first win of the season.

Pearcedale captain Dan Heijden also played a starring role, along with Aidan Simmons, Troy Jacobson and Luke Dalmau, who kicked three goals on a rolled ankle.

For Langwarrin, which is yet to have a win, Josh Dormer (two goals), Gerard Brown and Jesse Murphy (four) tried hard.

Rye’s 36-point win over Crib Point was tinged with controversy, with Rye player Ben Trivett facing a possible life ban.

Trivett was reported by four umpires for allegedly charging and was given an automatic two-game suspension, which took him to the contentious 16-week career suspension limit.

Rye and Trivett will challenge the suspension at the tribunal on Tuesday night.

“Coaches don’t usually go to tribunals but I’m going to be there to support him,’’ Rye coach Josh Moore said.

Rye won 8.16 (64) to 3.10 (28), with Demons skipper Adam Kirkwood a brick wall at centre half back and Tyrren Head continuing his consistent season with a standout display in the midfield.

A red-hot Dromana made it four wins from four games with a 15.9 (99) to 10.11 (71) result over Karingal.

The Tigers set up victory with a clinical first half when they scored 11.1.

Ethan Johnstone (4 goals), Sam Geurts (3), Jay Hutchinson (3) and Ben Holmes (2) were lively, while Majok Puok, Beau Cosson and Jackson Quigley were dominant.

A best-on-ground performance by Jake Mitchell underpinned Red Hill’s 17.12 (114) to 6.6 (42) win over Tyabb. Mitchell combined with Lachlan Chandler, Shea Mitchell, Michael Mock and Tom McEncroe, while Hillmen spearhead Ben Hughes slotted five goals.

Devon Meadows forwards Michael Theodoridis (six goals) and Allan Murray (four) combined to kick 10 goals as the Panthers scored a rousing 14-point win over Somerville.

Chelsea kept its unblemished record in tact — three from three — with a slick 25-point win at Hastings. The Seagulls sprinted to a 7.3 to 1.2 lead in the opening quarter and went on to win 13.7 (85) to 8.12 (60), with Curtis Bywater adding another four goals to his season tally and skipper Todd Gardiner starring.
