Former Coburg VFL star Keenan Posar will suit up for Heidelberg next season after returning to Australia.

After a breakout season saw him finish third in the Lions’ best-and-fairest in 2017 Posar moved overseas for work.

While living in the UK he joined AFL London outfit North London Lions, finishing third in the best-and-fairest last year behind Coburg teammate and West Preston-Lakeside recruit Adam Iacobucci.

Posar joins his younger brother Josh at Warringal Reserve in 2021, who switched from Greensborough this year.

Tigers coach Danny Nolan was rapt to add another quality young man to his NFL Division 1 squad.

“His family roots were the main reason he came but he brings a touch of class and just fits perfectly into the structure we’re trying to set up,” he said.

“He’s a good size, we’ll look to use him off half-back and through the midfield.

“Having that experience will be great to have him off a flank driving our young players.

“His brother is with us and brings plenty of enthusiasm, so we’re rapt to have Keenan as well.”

In his last season of VFL, Posar played all 18 games for Coburg and was named in the best seven times before being rewarded with the Vin Taranto Medal.

Josh Posar played 10 reserve grade games for Greensborough last season.

It continues a successful winter that has seen VFL players Matt Smith and Tom Schnerring commit full-time, skipper and reigning best-and-fairest Sam Gilmore and a host of key players re-sign.

Ageless Tigers legend Mick Finn will also return to defend his back-to-back reserve grade league best-and-fairests.

Heidelberg hopes to begin pre-season training as soon as possible but Nolan understood health and safety was paramount.

“It’s a bit of a bummer, we’ve set up running programs for guys to do individually,” he said.

“As soon as we get approval we’ll be into it because the guys can’t wait.”
