HEATHMONT recruit Bailey Stevens has made an immediate impact at the Jets since joining the Division 3 club from Eastern Football League powerhouse Vermont over the summer.
Stevens, off an under-19s premiership at the Eagles where he was best on ground, enjoyed a breakout game in the Round 4 win over Waverley Blues.
The performance netted him the Round 4 nomination for the Division 3 and 4 EFL Young Gun Award.
Despite his youth, Heathmont captain Dylan Sverns said Stevens had been setting the standards at training.
“Pretty much from day one he hasn’t missed a beat, he hasn’t missed a session, the way he has gone about it since his first night, he’s a real intense trainer but you can tell he has come across from a first division club,” Sverns said.
“He really brings a professionalism for such a young kid, he’s really impressed everyone around him, especially the senior guys about his training ethic.”
Sverns said Stevens joined the club over the summer through mates.
“I think being a midfielder, it might be a bit hard to break into a first division midfield straight out of (under) 19s but he has done that quite easily with us,” he said.
“Quite a handy recruit for us, being such a young kid, he’s got such a good head on his shoulders and his really started to slot into the senior side nicely.”
Stevens is joined by Vermont’s Charles Young, who is this week’s Division 1 and 2 nominee.
