GREENSBOROUGH coach Ben Turner said Sunday’s gutsy six-point win over Bundoora helped reinstate some confidence into his side ahead of its preliminary final date with Heidelberg this weekend.
Coming into the game on the back of a three-game losing streak, Greensborough shot out of the blocks to lead by 31 points halfway through the first term, with the Bulls not registering a possession until the four-minute mark.
Trailing by four goals at the first change, majors to Joseph Palazzolo, Gary Moorcroft and Josh Grabowski dragged Bundoora back to within three points.
When Moorcroft snapped his second goal, it gave the Bulls the lead for the first, and only, time of the game.
Led by the brilliance of Jack Johnston in its forward half, Greensborough regained its ascendancy in the third term and led by nine points at three-quarter-time.
Bundoora was brave and when James Lord goaled at the 20-minute mark of the last quarter he cut the margin to just five points.
It was enough to have even the most seasoned football watcher — including 2014 Boro premiership coach Robert Hyde — on the edge of their seat in the Preston grandstand.
But Hyde could rest easy at the final siren as Greensborough held on grimly for seven nailbiting minutes to book a preliminary final against Heidelberg.
Turner said it was a satisfying win.
“When you lose three in a row, the mood and the morale is always challenging but we kept telling ourselves that we got into this position through hard work during the rest of the season,” Turner said.
“We attacked the game like there was no excuses and no regrets so we were just fortunate to get the win in the end.”
