“Forward craft and marking’’ is a focus at Pines’ pre-season training, with legendary full forward Simon Goosey joining the Pythons’ coaching panel to work with the forwards.

The man who kicked 100 or more goals in a season on 12 occasions in the Mornington Peninsula league is working with the Pythons after accepting an invitation from Pines senior coach Paddy Swayn.

“Paddy asked me to do a little bit with the forwards,” Goosey said.

“I can’t commit to full time, it’s just a bit of part time stuff I’m doing.

“There’s some good young players there who can take a nice mark.”

Swayn said the forward line was an area Pines needed to improve after finishing seventh in MPFNL Division 1 in 2024.

“That’s been our biggest downfall last year, we just haven’t been able to kick enough goals,’’ Swayn said.

“So with a bit of his expertise and individual coaching, some of our forwards will be looking to come on.”

Goosey said he was working on “a bit of everything” with the Pines forwards, including Richmond VFL player Cam Olden, who has joined the Pythons full-time in 2025.

Dylan Williams, small forward Xavier Solomon and Luke Dalmau are other Pythons working with “The Goose’’.

“Dylan Williams, he’s a good forward, potentially he’s a really good forward,’’ Goosey said.

“Especially marking because positioning and setting up, it’s really important.

“I don’t reckon we do enough to be honest.

“The boys are keen to learn, too, so that’s a big thing.”

Goosey, who last coached at St Kilda City in 2023, said Swayn had plenty of talent at his disposal at Pines.

“He’s got a good group there,” he said.
