Georgia Patrikios believes Calder Cannons can replicate Northern Knight’s premiership run

Northern Knights bounced back from grand final defeat to claim the NAB League Girls premiership and Calder Cannons captain Georgia Patrikios believes the club can do the same.

Calder Cannons captain Georgia Patrikios believes the club can replicate the Northern Knights’ premiership run.

A youthful Cannons outfit was outclassed by a more mature Knights team in the NAB League Girls grand final at Princes Park.

The Knights were in a similar position last year when they lost to Geelong Falcons and Patrikios says her Cannons teammates will learn plenty from the 33-point loss.

“They came out strong and caught us off guard,” the Pascoe Vale junior said.

“As a group we didn’t capitalise on our inside 50s, we had a large amount but we couldn’t get a goal on the board.

“Their intensity around the ball was a class above.

“The Northern Knights were in a similar position last year so hopefully as a group they can keep developing and be in the Knights’ position next year.”

Patrikios couldn’t have done much more to lift her side, finishing with a game-high 25 disposals as well as nine tackles and six clearances.

Georgie Prespakis collected 20 disposals, four tackles and four clearances.

CANNON: YOUNG GUN COMPARED TO AFL GREAT

Unfortunately for Patrikios she won’t be a part of the Cannons next year but has her sights on a bigger stage.

Patrikios will be a key player for Vic Metro in the under-18 national championships, which kick off on June 22 against Vic Country.

Fellow Cannons Alana Barba and Felicity Theodore are also in the squad.

The Carlton fan then hopes to join former Calder teammate Maddy Prespakis in the AFLW and will suit up for Essendon’s VFLW team after her Vic Metro commitments.

“That’s the dream, to be drafted,” she said.

“I really pride myself on my speed and agility, to burst out of contests, and read the play and decision making.

“My endurance, covering the ground, is something I’d really like to work on and my overhead marking.”

Patrikios, Theodore, Barba, Gloria Elarmaly and Krstel Petrevski will play VFL for Essendon while Makeisha Muller will play for Melbourne University.
