THE appearance of former NBA star Andrew Bogut in the Sorrento footy changerooms last week whipped up a fair bit of excitement.

The big man was guest speaker at the club’s luncheon and happily agreed to have a chat to the players before the game against Edi-Asp. With many of the Sorrento players avid NBA fans, they hung on every word from Bogut, who was part of the 2015 NBA championship winning Golden State Warriors, alongside the likes of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

According to Sorrento coach Luke Tapscott it was difficult to know who enjoyed the experience more, the players or Bogut.

“I had a chat to him afterwards and I said ‘I’m assuming our change rooms are pretty similar to the locker rooms over in America?’, Tapscott said.

“He reckons he misses the smell of Deep Heat. He was loving it when he came in, he said, ‘it smells good in here’.”

Tapscott was blown away by the size of Bogut.

“Mate, he’s huge, he’s 212cm. He had to bend over to get in the door.”

Guess who’s coming to dinner: Rodney Eade.

RODNEY Eade will be guest speaker at the next ‘Dolphins in Sport’ function at Frankston footy club on Wednesday, June 20. The man known as “Rocket’’ is sure to have plenty of stories from his time as a Hawthorn premiership player, Brisbane Bears player and former Sydney Swans, Western Bulldogs and Gold Coast Suns coach.

The function starts at 7pm and includes a three-course dinner and drinks. Book online at www.frankstonfc.com.au/store/

FRANKSTON YCW has won four premierships in a row — and now it has lost four games in a row.

The Stonecats have been hit hard by injuries and have been fielding a depleted side in recent weeks.

So much so that reserves coach Lew Roberts had to come out of retirement and play up forward in the seniors last week. But there is light at the end of the tunnel for YCW. Brenton Credlin (back from Richmond VFL duties) and Bailey Angwin returned on Saturday and round 11 on June 23 is when YCW will regain many of their key men from injury, possibly half a dozen, including Lachy Wallace, Scott MacLeod, Ash Eames, Josh Patullo and Luke Paynter.

FRANKSTON YCW could also unveil a star recruit in Round 11, too, with Port Melbourne big man Khan Haretuku a chance to make his Stonecats debut. Khan has listed YCW as his home club and, with Port Melbourne having a bye that weekend, he could join the Stonecats - providing Borough coach Gary Ayres gives the all-clear. YCW play against Seaford on that day.

STILL at YCW and an injury update... talented young forward Josh Butland ended up in Rosebud hospital a couple of weeks ago after receiving a knee in the back. It was first thought he’d suffered only bruised kidneys but it was worse. He actually has a broken back. Yet, there is a chance he will play again later in the season.

Aaron Edwards has been in great goal-kicking form for Pines this season.

AARON Edwards’ eye-popping 13-goal haul for Pines had tongues wagging last week.

But there was a twist to the performance two days later when he had a goal taken off him, leaving him officially with 12 goals for the game.

It seems a video review of the game revealed he bagged a dozen, no more.

GOOD to see Jackson Sole make a comeback in Bonbeach’s reserves last week.

He went through some tough times earlier this season’s after suffering serious burns in an accident in April and underwent extensive skin grafts.

PEARCEDALE coach Leigh Stewart has been exasperated by his club’s run of bad luck with injuries. “Everyone keeps getting injured, it’s bloody unbelievable,” he said.

“Two years in a row we are copping it, it’s never ending.”

But there was good news for the Dales on Saturday when they regained captain Glenn Anderson and last year’s captain Ben Mitchell. Big Bear has been sidelined with a broken foot and a sore knee.

Of course, Pearcedale will have a pretty impressive “in” in a few weeks when Drew Petrie pulls on the blue and white hoops (on June 30).

RED Hill has landed a celebrity recruit — and didn’t even know it. When Byron Finnerty walked in off the street recently, just wanting a game, no one at the Hillmen had a clue who he was. But in 2014 he was pretty well known as a contestant on MasterChef.

“He’s never told us that,” a surprised coach Jamie Mollo said. “He’s actually a really unassuming bloke who goes about it quietly. When he wasn’t playing he was being runner for us or doing something else around the club. He’s a ripping bloke who just wants to play at a club that is local now he’s living in the area.”

Finnerty is a former Vermont player. He’s working as a chef on the peninsula.

A SPECIAL guest spoke at Mt Eliza’s president’s luncheon on Saturday. Kristina Karlsson, one of Australia’s top female entrepreneurs, told her amazing story of how she turned an idea into a thriving business generating $60 million.

She founded kikki.K, a retail chain specialising in designer stationery and gifts.

And there’s very much a local connection. Kristina, from Sweden, is married to former Mt Eliza player Paul Lacy.

They met at an Austrian ski resort. Kristina followed Paul to Australia and established their business in 2001.
