Former Geelong player Xavier Ivisic signs with St Mary’s

After being delisted by Geelong in October after just one season, a promising young talent has joined a local club that tasted flag success in 2025.

Delisted Cat Xaveir Ivisic has signed with Geelong league reigning premier St Mary’s in a “great get” for the club.

Ivisic has been added to Werribee VFL’s list since he was cut by Geelong after just one season in October, and will feature for the Saints when he is not required at state league level.

The untried 2024 rookie selection suffered a pre-season syndesmosis injury which sidelined him until round five of the VFL season.

He managed 13 appearances and averaged 15 touches and 3.5 tackles for the Cats as an outside midfielder and flanker.

A Geelong Amateur and Bell Park junior, Ivisic will pull on the guernsey his father Joe wore as a junior and senior player.

Xavier’s younger brother Noah also plays for the club’s under-14 side.

St Mary’s co-coach Luke Rayner was thrilled to get Ivisic’s signature but doesn’t mind his time in the green and blue being limited.

“We hope Xavier plays a lot of VFL footy, if not all VFL footy for his own personal development. But if he happens to be available, he is a great get for us,” Rayner said.

Ivisic is set to be the Saints’ last significant inclusion this off-season.

The Saints have also added Ivisic’s Werribee teammate Sam Azzi, welcomed back dual Mathieson medallist Harry Benson and secured Geelong Falcons graduate Josh Sanders from Lara.

St Mary’s has lost just two players in ruckman Sam Christensen (Barwon Heads) and Nick Connors, who will has headed to Western Australia through his recruiting role with Fremantle.
