South Croydon must find a new senior coach following the resignation of mentor Marcus Buzaglo.
The Eastern league Premier Division outfit confirmed on Tuesday morning that Buzaglo had advised the club of his decision to step down from the role effective immediately following Saturday’s 55-point loss to Norwood.
The Bulldogs sit 10th on the ladder with three wins and nine losses and are set to miss the finals for the first time since 2016.
“After a lot of thinking following the weekend’s game, I have informed the club of my decision to step down as senior coach effective immediately,” Buzaglo said in a statement.
“I have always spoken of the importance of putting the club first and I feel this decision does that.
“Our performance on the weekend indicated a new voice is the best way forward for the remaining six weeks of the year.”
Buzaglo took over in the top job in 2021 after a previous senior coaching stint with East Ringwood.
He led the Bulldogs to a preliminary final berth last season.
The club thanked Buzaglo for his service.
“Though this season has not worked out as planned, Marcus has always been fully committed to the whole club program at South Croydon and we thank him for his efforts over the journey,” the club said in a statement.
“We wish Marcus, his wife Monique, and the family, all the best for the future, and thank you all for your time at South Croydon.”
The club said a decision was imminent on a caretaker coach for the remaining six home-and-away matches.
“We are currently working through the coaching options for the remainder of the year and expect to make a further announcement later today or tomorrow,” the club said.
“In the meantime, the assistant coaches and senior players are working hard on planning for this week’s game.”
More to come.
