EFNL: Montrose under-14 Lachlan Jackson kicked the winning goal in a grand final after the siren

An Eastern league young gun has lived out every footballer's dream with a goal after the siren to win the grand final. See the vision.

Montrose’s Lachlan Jackson has lived out every young kid’s dream.

The Eastern Football Netball League under-14 etched himself into footy folklore on Sunday by kicking a goal after the siren to clinch premiership glory over The Basin.

Jackson’s kick was on the wrong side for a right footer but he pierced it through to deliver his side the 9.8 (62) to 9.6 (60) win and – more importantly – the premiership.

Jackson kicked two majors for the match, both in the last six minutes of play as the Demons stormed home from an eight-point three-quarter time deficit.

Montrose Junior Football Club president Glenn Bower recalled his recollection of the kick that completed a stunning final six minutes.

“They were 16 points down with six minutes to go and Lachie is a big target up forward, he had an average game by his standards but he slotted one with six minutes to go to get them within eight,” he said.

“The boys got another one within three minutes and then yeah… inside 20 seconds the holding the ball was paid and back Lachie went.

“For Lachie to kick the goal under that sort of pressure, he was typical LJ, he just went back cool as anything, not much seems to faze him.”

Bower says if the Demons were to pick anyone to be in that moment, it would be Jackson.

And he is confident the young forward is starting to understand the enormity of his accomplishment.

“If we could have it in anyone's hands, he’s the one, he’s a very good kick for goal,” he said.

“He’s been a presence up forward for the team all year, so he was certainly the man to have it.

“I think with the reaction, we had seven teams in the grand finals and we replayed it for everyone on the big screen at the club – I think it’s dawning on him now.

“I think his home room played it on Monday morning, so he actually went to school to bask in the glory, which not many of the other kids did.

“He’s a cracking kid, he’s a good footballer and it’s a great kid to happen to because he’s a ripper.”

Jackson kicked a goal in each of his 16 matches this season but none will be remembered more than his last.
