VERMONT is facing a nervous wait over prized recruit Sam Weideman following an injury on Saturday.

The former AFL Demon and Bomber left the field midway through the first quarter in the 49-point loss to Rowville at Seebeck Oval after a shoulder complaint. He took no further part in the match.

Vermont senior coach Matt Adolph said the club was awaiting the scan results.

“They think it’s an AC joint, but the severity of it, we don’t know yet,” Adolph said.

“He took a mark (on the boundary) 10 or 15 minutes into the first quarter, then kicked the goal and then we felt like it might’ve popped out then popped back in and then he came off.

“Our medical team said it probably wasn’t worth the risk until we know how severe it is.”

It would be a major blow to Vermont and Weideman, who recently declared he had rediscovered his enjoyment of the game by returning to local level.

“Coming back to my local club and just wanting to enjoy my footy, I think that really helped me perform on the weekend and helped me have fun,” he said after a bag of seven goals recently.

Meanwhile, fellow big-name recruit Liam Buxton was set to miss around two months after suffering a fractured kneecap in Round 1.

“He’s had surgery, we think it’ll be an eight-to-ten-week proposition, but we’ll wait and see how he progresses,” Adolph said.

Vermont hosts Blackburn this weekend.
