EFNL 2025: Scoresby sharpshooter Adam Amin eyes second-straight century

“Deceivingly flexible and agile” in the words of his coach, consecutive hauls of 10 goals has one local footy forward in sight of a second-straight ton – this time in a higher division.

Could a century strike a second time in as many years?

Back-to-back hauls of 10 goals in the past fortnight has Scoresby sharpshooter Adam Amin in sight of a second-straight ton.

The key forward comfortably leads the Eastern league Division 3 goalkicking with 58 majors from 11 matches – following 102 in the club’s premiership-winning Division 4 season last year.

Saturday’s heroics spearheaded his side to a 136-point win over Fairpark – with Scoresby consolidating second spot, clear by two wins with a 9-2 record.

Last season, Amin timed his run to perfection.

Saluting his 100th goal in the grand final, the half-time siren pierced out over East Ringwood Reserve as the Sherrin sailed through, earning the quintessential ground invasion.

While Scoresby senior coach Craig McKenzie says the prospect of a century this season is “not something we’re too focused on”, he has no doubt Amin has all the tools to repeat the feat in a higher division.

Hitting the scoreboard in all bar one game this year, second only to his 10-goal hauls was a bag of six against none other than ladder-leader Donvale.

“No doubt it (the ton) is in the back of his mind,” McKenzie said.

“It’s just nice for him to start getting a kick again – even in the games where he kicked five or so, he wasn’t really playing a brand that he was happy with … but he’s getting his hands on it again, he’s happier.

“He’s hard to move, he’s very good one-on-one and uses his body – he’s deceivingly flexible and agile.

“His ability to finish and accuracy is super strong as well.”

And as the Magpies’ Amin-centric play has become less each week this season, the returns have been greater according to the coach.

“As time goes on, we’re learning more to play with him rather than being so focused on him – it’s actually benefiting him more because it makes it harder for other teams to predict,” McKenzie said.

But it’s not just Amin’s golden boot getting it done for Scoresby.

Its signature, ground-long defensive stranglehold – which suffocated the Whitehorse Pioneers in last year’s decider – again has opposition sides gasping for air.

“We’ve got a whole-team defence system and when we’re playing well, especially through the middle of the ground, the backline can do their job,” McKenzie said.

“When we’re moving the ball, it’s because we’ve collectively put pressure right across the whole ground.

“We’ve got some elite midfielders … they’re excellent in not only doing their job but adapting on game-day.”

Scoresby hosts Oakleigh District (eighth) on Saturday.
