It’s been some return to the Eastern league for the exciting, young defender.

Heathmont’s Harry Isaacs hasn’t missed a beat since returning from North Adelaide in the South Australian state competition, finishing best afield on Saturday in the Jets’ 11.8 (74) to 4.13 (37) victory over Mulgrave.

The 190cm talent won the Heathmont best and fairest in 2023 on the way to a Division 2 Team of the Year gong – and has featured among the best in four of his seven matches this season, often tasked with the opposition’s No. 1 forward.

“He’s extremely important for us … he’s been really good for us down back,” Heathmont senior coach Scott Hamill said.

“He shuts down most key forwards but he can also attack the other way as well.

“We used him as a bit of a spare on the weekend to float across as an intercept mark, but nine times out of 10 we’ll put him on the most dangerous forward.

“If we don’t have that match-up, we’ll use him in other areas.”

Meanwhile, captain Jordan Haynes fired off half-back and was joined in the best by Ayhan Bajramov, Jack Davidson, James Appleby and Ryan Young.

Bajramov and Jed Hansen led the charge in attack with three goals apiece.

The Jets sit ninth on the ladder with a 2-5 record ahead of hosting Lilydale (10th) this weekend.

The weekend’s victory over a Mulgrave outfit currently in the top four has the coach bullish his side’s “best is good enough” to make a charge in the second half of the season.

“Our form’s definitely been very inconsistent and we know that – we know there’s been games of footy where we’ve been in them for periods of time, but unfortunately you can’t win games by being in them for periods of time,” Hamill said.

“You look at our results and we’re winning quarters but not winning games of footy.

“We know our best is good enough, it’s just producing that consistently.”
