South Belgrave must find a new senior coach following the shock exit of Heath Black.

The Eastern league Division 1 club had been tight-lipped about the former AFL Saint and Docker’s recent split, which is understood to have happened about a fortnight ago after the coach of one season tendered his resignation.

He had a year to run on his contract.

But in a statement released on Thursday afternoon, the club said:

“Heath Black, our 2024 senior coach, has decided not to continue on in the role for season 2025.

“We are very disappointed Heath has come to this decision, he was a positive influence for our club and all the people within.

“We would like to thank Heath for everything he did for the club in 2024 and wish him the best for whatever the future holds.”

The club had also been contacted by this masthead for comment prior to Thursday’s announcement.

Black, who earlier this week declined to comment on the matter, took over in the role ahead of 2024, steering the Saints to second spot on the ladder this season with a 14-4 record before suffering a straight-sets exit from the finals.
