Bulleen Templestowe has voted unanimously for an Eastern league move from next season.

Bulleen Templestowe is one step closer to playing in the Eastern league next season.

The longstanding VAFA outfit held a special general meeting on Wednesday, September 11, with members voting “unanimously in favour of the move”, the club said in a statement on Thursday night.

Two resolutions were put to a vote – the move, along with changing the club’s name from ‘Bulleen Templestowe Amateur Football Club’ to ‘Bulleen Templestowe Football Club’, upon successful application to the Eastern league.

“The EFNL have been advised of the vote results and will now need to formalise the move,” the club said.

Bulleen Templestowe, nicknamed the Bullants, has competed in the VAFA since 1975, winning six senior premierships – its last coming in Division 2 in 2012.

Despite a long and storied history stretching almost five decades with the association, the club said: “Following a period of careful consideration and consultation, the EFNL was seen as a better fit for the Bullants moving forward.”

“The current playing list is excited about the move and a great deal of past players have reached out to offer their support.

“It’s expected that a move to the EFNL would greatly assist with player recruitment and retention.

“The main source of players has always been via the Bulleen Templestowe Junior Football Club which are supportive of the move.

“Anticipated larger crowds in the EFNL will boost revenues through food and beverage sales, as well as generating an added level of excitement for both players and supporters.”

The club competed in the VAFA’s Division 2 this season – the association’s fifth tier of competition – finishing last with four wins and a draw.

A move into Eastern’s Division 4 – also the league’s fifth tier – has been rumoured.

The addition of another club would even the Division 4 competition to eight teams, removing the weekly bye.
