EFL 2022: Croydon North-MLOC coach Mark Holly to step down

An Eastern league Division 4 club has become the latest to enter the market for a new senior coach.

An Eastern league Division 4 club will soon begin its search for a new senior coach.

Croydon North-MLOC has confirmed mentor Mark Holly will step down from his post at season’s end following four years in the role.

He led the Kanga-Rams into the Eastern league in 2019 and has steered the club to a 3-10 record this season.

The decision was communicated on Thursday night prior to the club’s 134-point loss to ladder-leader Silvan on Saturday.

Croydon North-MLOC president Graham Hewitt said Holly cited family reasons for stepping away.

“It is with much sadness that I am informing the Kanga-Ram family that tonight our senior coach Mark Holly decided that his coaching journey with the club ends at season (sic) end,” Hewitt said in a statement.

“Mark has put his family first in making this decision and we as a club applaud him for making this hard decision.”

Hewitt paid tribute to Holly for his time in the role with the club building from the ground up since its Eastern league inception three years ago.

The club went winless through its inaugural season before a 2-9 result from 11 starts in 2021.

This season had been its best result.

“Mark was our inaugural coach of the club and over the four years he has shown everyone involved that the love for the players was his main priority,” Hewitt said.

“As president of our club I cannot thank him enough for all the work and effort he has put into the journey.”

Croydon North-MLOC joins Division 1 outfit Upper Ferntree Gully in its search for a new senior coach, with mentor Luke Tynan also set to step down at season’s end.

Meanwhile, a growing number of clubs have begun re-signing their coach for next season, including Premier Division outfit South Croydon locking in Marcus Buzaglo and Division 3’s Coldstream securing Chad Rogers for 2023.

Croydon North-MLOC has been contacted for further comment.
