Eastern Division 3 outfit Warrandyte must find a new coach after parting ways with senior mentor Anthony McGregor.

McGregor took over as Bloods coach at the end of 2017, where he led the club for two seasons after previously holding head roles at South Morang and Reservoir in the Northern league.

His highest point as coach came last year with an 11-win season and third position – the Bloods’ first finals appearance since 2015 – steering his side to a semi-final which it lost in extra-time to the Waverley Blues.

Warrandyte president Jason Smith said it was a mutual parting of ways following a committee-based decision to review the club’s coaching ranks for season 2021.

“As the committee continues to develop plans for the 2021 season in these unprecedented times, the decision has been agreed to review our coaching group to ensure we have the best alignment for success in 2021 and beyond,” he said.

“After consultation with senior coach Anthony McGregor, it was mutually agreed upon that Anthony would not continue in his role next season as the club has decided to change directions.

“A combination of a new business and young family has resulted in his decision to not seek a further year.”

Warrandyte becomes the fourth Eastern league club to have a change among its senior coaching ranks during 2020, alongside Vermont, Lilydale and Knox.

McGregor recently backed the impending statewide salary cap cuts and praised the club’s “amazing position” it was in to tackle the change going forward, with its up-and-coming talent and homegrown players.

Smith thanked McGregor for his contribution and said the club would begin the process of finding its next senior coach.

“We would like to thank Anthony for all of his hard work since joining to the club in 2018 and we wish him well with his future endeavours,” he said.

“The club will now start the process of finding a suitable coaching group to guide our talented players.”
