IT hasn’t taken long for star Vermont recruits Andrew Ainger and Brett Eddy to find their feet in the Eastern Football League.
The pair combined for 10 goals on Saturday as the Eagles crushed Montrose by 60 points to make it two wins from as many starts in Division 1.
Eddy, who cracked three games for Port Adelaide last year, kicked seven goals to be among Vermont’s best, while former SANFL star Ainger chimed in with three.
Ex-VFL and SANFL spearhead Brett Eddy quick to make his mark for Vermont FC in the @footyefl. Kicked seven goals yesterday against Montrose. But you fancy heâll kick bigger bags this year.

Both arrived at Terrara Rd during the summer in a bid to help Vermont clinch its 20th premiership.
Eddy already has 10 goals this season, with his South Gippsland mate and fellow star forward Jake Best set to return for his first game of the season against North Ringwood this weekend.
“They (Ainger and Eddy) have played a little bit of footy together, I think they’ll keep improving, I think as a group we’re still working on our connection between the forwards and our ball movement from down back,” coach Harmit Singh said.
“They’ve settled in really well, I’m already seeing good growth from Round 1 to Round 2.”
Tom Schneider, Robbie McComb, Collingwood VFL recruit Jordan Collopy and Footscray-listed Alex Greenwood controlled the midfield battle to help Vermont to a 20.16 (136) to 12.4 (76) victory over the Demons.
There will be more of a jam for positions at the Vermont selection table than Melbourne’s peak hour traffic this week, with Best among a host of players to return.
Captain Lachie Johns was unavailable on the weekend due to work committments, while the talented quartet of Trent Castledine, Cam Howat, Kirby McConnon and Darcy Crocker featured in the reserves on Saturday.
“The competition for spots, it really means the boys just cannot drop off from a workrate perspective and so far so good in their response from season 2017,” Singh said.
