TEMPLESTOWE’S hopes of avoiding relegation and pushing for an unlikely finals berth have received a timely boost after an 18-point win over Warrandyte on Saturday.

The contest proved to be a shootout between Templestowe recruit Daniel Cripps and Warrandyte marksman Luke Dunn, with the pair slotting 11 goals between them.

But Cripps’ half-dozen tipped the game in the Dockers’ favour, helping his side to a 11.15 (81) to 9.9 (63) win.

Templestowe steadily built its lead at each of the first three changes before coming away with its fifth win of the Division 3 season.

The victory gave Templestowe back-to-back wins for the first time this year and moved the Dockers into sixth position on the ladder.

With six sides to be demoted from the third tier at the end of the season as part of the competition restructure, that’s where the Dockers will be hoping to remain for the remainder of the campaign.

Elsewhere in Division 3, Donvale slipped to its fifth loss from its past six games after a 72-point defeat against Boronia at Tormore Reserve.

The defeat leaves the Magpies needing to make up two games to avoid relegation, with games against fellow mid-table sides Waverley Blues, Warrandyte and Ferntree Gully in the coming weeks.

In Division 1, Doncaster kicked nine goals to one after halftime to post a 60-point victory over Montrose.

In Division 2, Mitcham scored the upset of the season after a seven-point win over Doncaster East.

The win gave the Tigers their second victory of the season, with Mooroolbark now only clear of relegation on percentage.

Park Orchards also made it three consecutive wins after a 50-point win over the Mustangs.
