South Croydon has added a significant injection of class to its midfield group with the addition of Woori Yallock gun Jordy Williams.

Williams has long established himself as one of the top midfielders in the AFL Outer East competition, claiming the 2016 Harold Ramage Medal as the league best and fairest.

He played in Woori Yallock’s 2014 premiership, has represented Vic Country and brings VFL experience from stints at Coburg and Frankston.

It was announced on Monday night that Williams had signed at Cheong Park.

South Croydon coach Luke McCormick said Williams was the club’s recruiting priority.

“I think there was probably half a dozen, if not eight clubs, that would have been talking to him as well,” McCormick said.

“He was our No.1 (target), purely for his ability to go through the mid and go forward as well but also because of the type of guy he is.”

Williams also has an ability to be dangerous in attack, kicking 38 goals in 18 games in 2018.

“Quality, quality player but quality guy as well,” he said.

“Like a lot of guys these days, we know each other through different clubs and he knows heaps of guys at South.

“He’ll fit in just perfectly, not only through our midfield but as a person as well. Really pumped.”

Walker will join ‘Dano’ King, Matt Jones, Jordan Walker, Nick Evans and Max Warren in South Croydon’s midfield group next year.

McCormick tipped Williams could become a leader in South Croydon’s on-ball division as it aims for a third grand final appearance in four years in 2020.

“I think he can be, absolutely,” he said.

“He’s been around footy for a while and played mainly at Woori in the last few years.

“He’s really driven to want to have success, which is what we want as well, and feel that we’re pretty close obviously.”
