EFL 2018: Ringwood captain Trent Farmer hoping to overcome broken arm to play in Division 3 grand final

RINGWOOD captain Trent Farmer will give himself every opportunity of playing in the Division 3 grand final after breaking both bones in his forearm.

Lilydale wins through to the Division 2 grand final

RINGWOOD captain Trent Farmer remains a “50-50” chance to play in Sunday’s Division 3 grand final against Boronia as he recovers from a broken arm.

The star forward broke both the ulna and radius in his forearm against Boronia on August 18, the final home-and-away game of the season. But he remains a chance to run out for Ringwood’s first decider since the 2005 Division 2 premiership.

Farmer said his recovery was on track but would delay a decision on if he would play until Thursday.

“It’s just a broken bone so there’s no real damage around the area,” Farmer said.

“When I’m running it’s pretty stable so that is all sorted. I’ve got a couple of plates in there so that kind of keeps it pretty steady and there is no movement in that so when I’m running it’s fine.

“Hopefully we’ll get back on the track this week and we’ll see how we go and see how much pain I’m in.”

Farmer said the prospect of playing in a premiership would be considered in his decision but would not put himself before the team’s needs as the Redbacks look to complete an undefeated season.

“I’ve been at the club for over 10 years playing senior footy there and Ringwood has never been in a grand final since I’ve been there,” he said.

“Obviously I’ll weigh that up in my decision but if I’m going in at 50 per cent, it would be putting the team in jeopardy taking in an injured player.

“I’ll do everything I can to get up and go from there.”

Some questioned whether Ringwood would be able to win through to the decider, but Mitch Brereton and Daniel Jordanov have stepped up in his void.

“We’re not a one-man show that everyone thinks we are,” he said.

“Everyone says, ‘no Farmer, no Ringwood’ but we’re not like that at all.”
