What an intriguing EDFL Division 1 awaits us on Saturday afternoon at Windy Hill.
Deer Park against West Coburg — the best two teams all season.
The Lions were many people’s tips to take home the premiership before a game had even been played this season after crossing from the WRFL.
Their powerful line-up has been on full display this finals series including a massive win when these two sides met in the second semi-final a fortnight ago.
Dale May’s West Coburg finished on top of the ladder undefeated and suffered their first loss in that final.
Now they return to the final game of the season after going down to Airport West in last year’s decider.
Here’s a look at the players who could have the biggest impact.
Tom Baravi, West Coburg
Was quiet the last time these sides met and will be looking for a big response. His performance in the midfield will have a big impact on this result.
Abdi Fitaax, West Coburg
An important part of the West Coburg line-up. Fitaax can break the game open with his running power.
Scott Greenhough, Deer Park
One of the best ruckman in the competition. Greenhough moves well across the ground and is a dominant presence in the air. Floats forward and hits the scoreboard too.
Levi Greenwood, Deer Park
The former AFL midfielder returned to the Lions at the halfway point of the season and has been a standout. Tough and ferocious in a stacked Deer Park engine room.
Bailey Morrish, Deer Park
Was superb in the second semi with his dash off halfback and intercept ability. Could be a real best on ground medal chance if the Lions do win.
Tim Quick, Deer Park
Controls everything about Deer Park in the back half. Rarely beaten in the air or on the ground. Possesses pace and nice skills to set up the Lions’ attack.
Lachlan Smart, Deer Park
Lit up the second semi-final with five goals and shapes as a real match winner. Has been in a purple patch the last month with 18 goals.
Dominic Dean Spagnolo, West Coburg
The big fella in the middle has only four games this season but looms as a key to the Burgers’ hopes. Should be a fascinating battle against Greenhough.
Ibrahim Taha, West Coburg
An excitement machine who could get the West Coburg crowd going if the Burgers get on top. Has 67 goals for the season.
Noah Weihrauch, West Coburg
An excitement machine on the wing for Dale May’s side. Runs all day and is consistently an outlet of defence.
