Tullamarine locks in three key figures for 2024 EDFL season

Tullamarine has revealed its coaching structure for 2024 in an exciting triple announcement with the EDFL club determined to quickly rise back up the ladder.

Tullamarine is sticking with it knows for the 2024 season.

The EDFL club has announced David Connell will remain on as senior coach for next year.

Connell was appointed to the interim coaching role several weeks ago after Ben Tankard was relieved of his duties.

He had stood down from the senior coaching role to become club president at the end of last season.

“After a short break from coaching, I am re-energised and super keen to get to work over the off season and build this list again to have us back where we belong next season,” Connell said in a club statement.

The Demons said “they have a desire to rise quickly in 2024 and play finals football again, and the coaching selection panel felt David was the best credentialed person with values aligned to the club to achieve this next season”.

Connell’s reappointment was part of a triple announcement from the Demons who sit third last on the Division 1 ladder.

They also confirmed captain Daniel Devine had re-signed along with his deputy Tim Matson.

“In a season which has not gone to plan on field, Daniel’s leadership has been outstanding and really held the group together,” the club said.

“Tim Matson has also committed for next season and will be elevated to the role of one of the vice captains. Timmy’s form and leadership down back in the back half of the year after injury has been career best and we are excited to see him continue to grow.

“The club is confident with these appointments we have the right people in place to lead the way in making this club great again.”

The 2023 season has been a difficult one for Tullamarine who have fallen into a relegation fight after playing in a preliminary final last year.

They’ll face Roxburgh Park this weekend.
