The key players in the EDFL women’s grand finals

The EDFL’s best women’s teams will take centre stage in the grand finals on Saturday. Here are the players shaping as match winners.

It’s time for the EDFL’s women’s teams to take centre stage.

On Saturday, all three divisions will contest their grand finals at Windy Hill for the right to be crowned premiers.

The showpiece event, the Premier Division grand final, will see Aberfeldie take on Oak Park in an thrilling contest with both previous meetings decided by single figures.

In Division 1, Greenvale will go in as favourites against Essendon Doutta Stars although the latter did win their previous meetings.

Meanwhile, Airport West will look to complete the perfect season against Division 2.

Here are the players who could shape the decider.

PREMIER DIVISION

Alex Quigley, Oak Park

Arrived at the club at the start of the season and has become the league’s best forward. Quigley has booted 47 goals for the season, well clear of her nearest challenger.

Amber Wescombe, Aberfeldie

A former VFLW player who has been in fabulous form after returning to the Abers’ line-up in early July. Wescombe has been in the best in four out of five games since then.

Ellie Huggard, Aberfeldie

The former VFLW Bulldog has been nothing short of sensational this season, having been named in the best every game this season. She’ll be right in league medal contention and could easily finish the day as the best player on the ground.

Findlay has the ability to break the lines on the wide and open expanses of Windy Hill on Saturday afternoon. The former VFLW midfielder has been impressive this season and has the ability to win a best on ground medal.

Erica Markesich, Aberfeldie

Markesich enters the decider as her side’s leading goalkicker with 21 majors for the season. She likes the match up with Oak Park having booted eight goals form three outings.

Olivia Storer, Oak Park

Another player with VFLW experience. Storer is one of the league’s best players when up and about. She won the Roos’ best-and-fairest two years ago.

DIVISION 1

Alisa Magri, Greenvale

Finished as the leading goalkicker this season with 48 majors but the Stars will be confident of keeping her quiet. Magri has kicked three goals in the last two games against them.

Jessie Hulett, Essendon Doutta Stars

Hulett has lit up the finals series with eight goals in her last two games to take her to 35 for the season. She could break this open.

Meg Runting, Essendon Doutta Stars

Has played some VFLW footy with Carlton this year and the Stars couldn’t be happier to have her back.

Neve Crowley, Essendon Doutta Stars

If Crowley fires, the Stars are an even better chance of lifting the silverware. She’s had a standout season and has been named best in her last two meetings with Greenvale.

Nicolette Paschalis, Greenvale

A rising star of the competition. Paschalis has booted 39 goals for the season in her first full season of senior footy.

Terira Fry, Greenvale

Fry has been named in the best the most times of any Jets player this season with nine mentions. She also enjoys against playing against Doutta Stars having been named in her two outings against them.

DIVISION 2

Emelia D’Aquila, Aberfeldie 2

Has played a key role in her side’s run to the grand final with a consistent year.

Emily Gipp, Airport West

Claimed her second straight league goalkicking award this season with 51 majors and shapes as matchwinner this weekend. More than capable of having a big day.

Georgia O’Donovan, Airport West

Capable of having a day out in front of goal, O’Donovan is her side’s second leading goalkicker this season.

Jacqueline Wade, Aberfeldie 2

Wade has been her side’s leading goalkicker this season with 19 majors.

Lily Robinson, Aberfeldie 2

Robinson is as consistent as they come. Expect her to leave everything out there.

Natasha Campbell, Airport West
