Mitch Podhajski stars on debut for Greenvale

Greenvale coach Darren Bewick has declared his side is getting “better” after a statement win headlined by a stunning debut from a VFL star.

Darren Bewick wishes Greenvale had access to Mitch Podhajski every week.

The Coburg VFL star made an instant impression for the Jets in a statement 14.14 (98) to 9.10 (64) EDFL Premier Division over Pascoe Vale.

It was a win which moved Bewick’s side behind reigning premier Strathmore on only percentage with an 8-5 record.

“Really good to have Mitch, a really positive performance,” Bewick said.

“It’s always good when you can inject a high quality player into your side, he certainly helped us around the contest. It was a pretty contested game most of the day and it was important to get on top on that area considering the size of the ground.

“We’ve been competitive with most sides this year and now we’re in a good position. We’re 8-2 since round 3 and our form is getting better.

“Pascoe Vale had three or four of their better players out so it was important we took our chances.

Daniel Micevski and Nicholas Maric also impressed for the Jets with strong performances in the middle of the ground.

Ben Speight booted four goals while Ryan Mills and Cam Tudor added three apiece.

“Maric and Micevski have had very good years in the midfield and they continued that,” Bewick said.

“Tudor gave us a good focal point and fortunately we were able to put a decent score on the board.”

During Saturday’s victory, the Jets celebrated Fort Caruso’s 100th senior game at the club.

He was presented with a recognition of the milestone by his brother, Nat.

“He’s a well respected figure of the club,” Bewick said.

“He’s a terrific person from a terrific family. Fort doesn’t say a lot but he’s a very talented footballer.”

Greenvale will face Aberfeldie this weekend.
