Jake Greiser aligns with Keilor Park

Keilor Park has revealed it has longer term plans when it comes to the signing of a VFL midfielder who was announced as a shock late season recruit.

It’s a big addition but Keilor Park isn’t sure how much of its new man it will see.

On Wednesday, the Essendon District league club announced Williamstown VFL midfielder Jake Greiser had aligned for the club for the remainder of the season.

Despite putting pen to paper, coach Paul Guicas admitted he wasn’t expecting to see Gresier to pull on club colours this season.

Greister, who has played over 100 state league games, has been a consistent feature in the Seagulls’ line-up this season, recording over 20 disposals in each of the last four games.

“It’s good to get him down, but whether he plays with us is another thing,” Guicas said.

“He’s got a few mates down at the club and he’s always down watching our games. When it comes time later in the year, he’s someone we will sit down with and work out what his plans are for next year.

“We love having him around, he’d be a great addition for us if there is a chance to get him out on the ground.”

After winning last season’s Division 2 premiership, the Devils have made good progress in the second tier this season with a 5-7 record.

They currently sit eighth on the ladder and look to have all but secured their place in Division 1 next season.

They’re currently three games clear of 11th placed Westmeadows who occupy one of the two relegation places with last placed Glenroy.

“We’ve taken a lot of positives out of this year,” Guicas said.

“The young guys have really stood up when they’ve been given the opportunity. Daylan Kempster, who is arguably our best player, has played only two games.

“We’re not using injuries as an excuse but embracing the challenges. We’ve had seven guys who played reserves all of last year play some senior footy this year.

“It shows the depth is in a really good place. We were disappointed to lose to Moonee Valley last weekend but there’s another really good opportunity against Craigieburn on Saturday.”

Bryce Whelan, Oscar Sasalu, Robbie Castello and Vince Schiavello are just some of the names to have impressed throughout the season.

Sasalu is the Devils leading goalkicker with 21.

Despite finals being a long shot, Guicas is urging his players to use remaining games as a platform for next year.

“We’re going to play sides who are in the finals mix so we want to be winning as many games as possible,” he said.

“You just don’t know what’s possible when you keep winning.”
