What a fortnight it has been for Greenvale.
Two wins on the trot has the Jets looking like what many may consider to be an outside chance of playing finals footy this year.
It started with a 28-point victory against Avondale Heights — a game where Darren Bewick’s side rallied from 45 points down at halftime to kick start their season.
On Saturday, they made the most of their opportunities against an understrength Aberfeldie to record a 14.9 (93) to 11.8 (74) victory.
“We’ve been building towards it,” Bewick said.
“There have been glimpses, then we’d just have lapses in games. It’s been a slow process with new players coming into the side, they’ve needed time to gel together.
“It always takes a little bit of time. We just managed to get off to a good start and keep them away for the rest of the game.
“We just couldn’t get it beyond that five or six-goal margin which is a real credit to Aberfeldie.”
One new player to have impressed at the weekend was Jason Kenneth who produced a best on ground display in defence.
Ryan Mills, Cam Tudor (four goals), Jett Ladewig, Nicholas Maric and Josh Porter were also named among the Jets’ best.
“The last two weeks we’ve really been impressed with what he (Kenneth) has produced,” Bewick said.
“Like everyone else, he’s needed some time to settle into our side but has continued to improve. We think there’s a lot of upside to his come and the best is still going to come.”
When asked what had changed over the last six quarters of footy, Bewick said the answer was quite simple.
“Our pressure has been up,” he said.
“We’ve been able to force the opposition into turnovers and in turn create more opportunities for ourselves. We’ve had more scoring shots the last couple of weeks which has been really helpful.
“We’re also using the ball a lot better.”
Greenvale will now turn its attention to a clash with the winless Maribyrnong Park.
Aberfeldie will look to bounce back against Essendon Doutta Stars.
