Frank Campisi boots four as East Keilor beat Greenvale

East Keilor has taken a major step towards finals footy on the back of another brilliant display from one of its star forwards with several others impressing.

Frank Campisi is enjoying some sort of season for East Keilor.

And he’s saving some of his best performances for the biggest games of the Cougars’ Essendon District league season.

Campisi booted four goals in a wonderful performance on Saturday to guide his side to a 12.10 (82) to 11.6 (72) win over Greenvale.

His performance helped lay the platform for East Keilor to move two games clear in the top-four and move closer to a Premier Division finals birth.

The talented forward is East Keilor’s leading goalkicker this season with 23 majors, despite going goalless in the opening two games of the season.

Since then, Campisi has kicked multiple goals in all but one game, against Aberfeldie a fortnight ago.

East Keilor coach Rocky Iannello was full of praise for one of his stars.

“It’s been a really positive year for Frank,” he said.

“He’s a quality finisher in front of goal and doesn’t need many chances. We’ve been really pleased with his form so far this year.”

The Cougars were able to overturn a one-goal deficit at the final change to take away the four points from Greenvale Recreation Reserve to make it two wins from two against Greenvale this year.

There were plenty of big moments in the final quarter including a clever checkside from the boundary from Campisi while Dion Hill took a brilliant contested mark but was unable to convert.

Chris Stewart’s second goal of the day put East Keilor in front and from there, the Cougars were able to hold on.

Jacob Brown was named the best player on the field with Ben Caluzzi, Bruno Laguda, Damien Petrone and Heath Shaw also impressing for the visitors.

“Jacob was brilliant all day,” Iannello said.

“Across half back he’s fitted in the role nicely, we had contributors right across the park.”

Saturday’s victory marked back-to-back wins for East Keilor who sits third on the ladder.

Iannello believes his side are starting to find their best again after dropping two games in a row to start June.

“We’ve been consistent all year, even when we did drop those games we were still in the contest,” he said.

The Cougars will now turn their attention to a home game against Essendon Doutta Stars.

Greenvale will look to bounce back against Avondale Heights.
