EDFL: Ross Terranova stands down as Glenroy coach

A Premier Division club is set to swing a coaching change with the current senior coach set to lead his 100th game in charge next weekend before stepping away.

Change is coming at Glenroy.

The Essendon District Football League club has announced Ross Terranova will depart as senior coach at the end of the season.

His last game in the final round of the Premier Division season against East Keilor on August 20 will also be his 100th in charge of the Roys.

With two games to play for, Glenroy is still fighting for survival sitting at the bottom of the ladder with just one win for the season.

They remain a game and almost 16 per cent behind Essendon Doutta Stars, who they’ll face on Saturday.

In a statement posted to social media, the club said it had reached a “mutual agreement” with Terranova following several weeks of discussions.

“Ross in his usual club first attitude has to the conclusion that it was time for a fresh start with the group and he would stand down at season end,” the statement said.

“On the back of what can only be described as an extremely frustrating season for the clubs, its coaches and players with unprecedented injury and unavailability restricting the in field impact of the group.

“Ross and his family leave a huge footprint on our great club, both on and off the field.”

Terranova leaves the role after the Roys won the 2017 Division 1 premiership to win promotion to the top tier.

He is the second longest serving coach in Glenroy’s history and the first senior coach to survive in Premier Division for multiple seasons in over 40 years.

“Ross and his family will forever be part of the Glenroy Football Club and the Glenroy Football Club family,” the statement continued.

“The club will continue discussions with Ross and his family around what is next in Ross’ football journey in the hope that Ross will continue on at our great club to help continue his great work with our/his club into the future.

“But we wish him well in whatever path he takes next knowing he will succeed at whatever it is.”
