Moonee Valley’s Georgia Marsland has experienced plenty in her 200 games of footy.

But in her milestone game, she’ll experience a career when she lines up alongside her three sisters — Abigail, Brooke and Olivia — on Saturday morning in the Essendon District Football League.

The family affair won’t stop there either with mum, Rachael, The Fog team manager while over the years dad, Stefan, has held several volunteer roles at the club.

It’s an opportunity which has come about after youngster sister Brooke turned 18 earlier this year, allowing her to play in the women’s team.

“Honestly to play alongside my sisters is going to be one of my favourite memories,” she said.

“It’s something I’ll look back on a few years from now and remember just how special it is.”

Marsland’s journey started back in 2011 at West Coburg when she played “with the boys” in the under-12s.

She’d eventually go onto play at Pascoe Vale, once she finished under-14 footy with the Burgers, before crossing to Moonee Valley in 2019.

Her underage journey also included a handful of games for the Calder Cannons in the Coates Talent League.

“I absolutely love Moonee Valley,” she said.

“When I was younger, people would question why I was playing footy, it wasn’t as popular among girls as it is now.

“I kept to playing to prove a point in some way. I love that it’s different to any other sport which is played in the world.”

Marsland hasn’t been afraid to step outside of her comfort zone either.

In recent years, she’s spent the summer months playing in the highly competitive Northern Territory Premier League with St Mary’s.

“It’s a lot faster,” she said of the standard.

“The heat can be a challenge, then there’s a downpour and you can barely see five metres in front of you.

“Being up there has been a great experience.”
