Brendan Fevola is coming out of retirement.

The champion AFL goalkicker has been announced as Essendon District Football League club East Sunbury’s newest signing.

Fevola, who played for Carlton and Brisbane, confirmed the news on the The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick on Friday morning.

He confirmed he would make the over hour long drive each week to play for the Thunder.

“By the time footy season starts I’ll be 44, that’s old man age,” he said.

“They struggled last year, zip and 16, didn’t win a game last year.

“I’m going to play a full season (16 games). I’m trying to get a few teammates to come along with me but I haven’t heard from anyone yet.

“I’m just like John Farnham, I just keep coming back.”

Fevola’s newest club hasn’t won a game in the last two seasons after going into recess for 2022.

In recent years, Fevola has played consistently in the Superules over-35s competition for Diamond Valley while making guest appearances at local clubs across the country.

This year he turned out for Heidelberg West in the Northern league and Penguin in Tasmania’s North West Football League.

“Once you retire, you’re done forever. I played last year, I lost a little bit of weight and now I’m looking like I can go again,” he said.

“I kicked like 12 goals, I’m on.”

New East Sunbury co-coach Dave Morrice said he was looking forward to working with Fevola in helping guide the club’s youth forward.

“Bringing Brendan in, we’ve recruited a footballer, not a celebrity,” he said.

“We’ve brought him in for his football ability and everyone is aware of the ability he does have. There’s a bit of buzz around the club at the moment when you bring someone of his ilk in.

“We’re hoping he can help develop our younger guys, we’ve got a lot of players who have only played a little bit of senior footy so having him on board gives them another experienced leader.”
